Who we are! Hope Presbyterian Church is "Biblical". We are established on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Christ Jesus is the cornerstone. Therefore, we believe the Old and New Testaments to be the only inerrant, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. We believe Paul's statement that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God and the take God's word as being straight or true. This governs what we believe and how we live. Hope Presbyterian Church is "Presbyterian". This means that we are governed by elders (presbyters) chosen by God, examined by the elders, and elected by the congregation to care for the church body by teaching, protecting, ruling, and loving . We are a church under the oversight of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). Therefore, we bear our Christian witness according to our denomination's constitution of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, subordinate to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, consists of its standards of doctrine, government, discipline, and worship, namely, its Confession of Faith, Larger and Shorter Catechisms, Form of Government, Book of Discipline, and Directory for the Public Worship of God. When the latter three documents are published together, the combined document shall be entitled the Book of Church Order of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (Form of Government XXXII.1). Hope Presbyterian Church is "Reformed". This means that we are identified with those churches that formed (or reformed) during the 1600's in the Protestant Reformation yet our beliefs go back to the first apostles, and are expressed clearly in scriptures. Our teaching also follow the teachings of Augustine and early Church. Therefore, we believe that God is in control of our salvation. He saves us by grace only (nothing that we deserve), through faith in Christ. We hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Shorter Catechism, the Larger Catechism, as our secondary or subordinate standards to the Bible. These are all supported explicitly by the Bible our primary standard. Hope Presbyterian is Christian We are a Christian Church with loving members but we are always looking and praying for others to join us in worship, study, and prayer. Hope Presbyterian Church is a "Church". This means that we are people, who have been called out of our sins, to our Savior Jesus Christ, to live life in grace. The Church is an integral part of the way we live as Christians. We are not foreigners (Acts 1:22-23) but all members are joined together as the Body of Christ. Christ is the head redeeming us, ruling, and interceding for us. The Church is taught by the Holy Spirit and Worships, Grows in Grace by instruction and fellowship, Reaches out to others outside the church (missions and community), and carries out deeds of mercy. Hope Presbyterian Church is "Spirit Led". We are also a spirit led church and rely on Him for understanding and direction and guidance. We spend much time in prayer and encourage each other to join in corporate prayer.
